English:

( Euthanasia, Organ Trading, Health related articles).
- Cut out and comment on 2 articles from the Straits Times dealing with the financial crisis (local or foreign) or how to cut down on spending

- 5 reflections from 5 articles from newspapers or magazines on political, social or economic issues such as the American Presidential Election, global financial crisis, conflicts between countries etc etc.

* Each reflection must be at least 1 page long.


Sec 2 Express (English, Humanities and Science): PBL assignment.
Problem: Prior to the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games on 8th of August 2008, there was a great concern among the participating countries about the pollution in Beijing, China.
Task:
Do research on the following.
· Brief history about the origin of Marathon.
· Find out who was the world famous marathon runner who refused to run at Beijing Olympics because of pollution.
· Why the participating countries were concerned about pollution in Beijing.
· What measures were taken by the Chinese Government to minimize the problems of pollution.
Put up a long list of recommendations to the Beijing Government to help them minimize pollution in the long run.

* You are to work in groups of 3 to 4.
* Your write-up should be about 300 words. You should also design a poster that encourages people to help stop pollution.
* You are not to copy wholesale from the Internet or other sources. All work done must be in your own words.
* You must include the sources of your information e.g. Websites, reference books etc.
* Hand in on the first week of 2009. Marks awarded will be counted as part of CA1 for next year.
